Spent the weekend at Glatfelder Cabin on Quartz Lake. This is an old homesteader’s cabin that is now owned by the State and can be rented by individuals.

Had to take a trip to Barrow on Saturday 1/30. The most depressing and desolate place I’ve ever been. The culture of the Inupiat people is fascinating, though. I was there to MC the new Postmaster’s Installation Ceremony. It was held at the Inupiat Hertiage Center. The village of Barrow has close to 5000 residents and is roughly 75% Inupiat. The people still live a somewhat subsistense lifestyle and hunt whales, seals, walruses, polar bears, etc. Check out http://www.nps.gov/inup/index.htm . Barrow is the northernmost city in North America.
